Anxiety is a natural response from the body and brain designed to protect us from danger, but it can become overwhelming when it is triggered too often or without a real threat. It involves a combination of worried thoughts, physical sensations like a racing heart or tight chest, and emotional feelings such as fear or restlessness. Anxiety happens because the brain’s alarm system activates the fight-or-flight response, releasing stress hormones that prepare the body to react. As human beings we needed our fight or flight response much more hundreds of years ago when we were hunting for food and needed to remain safe. Anxiety can be overwhelming now adays when our bodys nervous system reacts grandiose over little life events. Chronic anxiety can interfere with daily life. Helping anxiety starts with calming the body through slow, deep breathing, grounding techniques, and muscle relaxation, which signal safety to the nervous system. Learning to recognize anxious thoughts and gently challenge them, rather than avoiding fears completely, helps retrain the brain to feel safer. Talking to someone you trust or seeking professional support, such as therapy, can be especially effective, as anxiety is not a weakness but a common and treatable condition. Some special tips to tackle anxiety include:
Slow breathing: in 4 sec → out 6–8 sec
Grounding: notice what you can see, feel, hear
Relax muscles: gently tense then release different body parts
Cold water on face: can stop panic quickly
